ROCK: Shinedown (2/1)

Total Recommendations (0)

Melodic rockers Shinedown have been on the ascent through the last decade, charting with tunes like "Save Me" and the huge modern rock hit "I Dare You." Shinedown places less emphasis on pop composition and more emphasis on the rock guitar/percussion combo, with vocals that evoke a Chris Cornell-like range and ability. Also on the bill is Skillet, a band with as contemporary Christian style that made its big break just last year with the album "Awake." Music fans will undoubtedly know Puddle of Mudd, another alternative/hard rock veteran act that quickly gained crossover success off the backs of the instantly recognizable "Blurry" and sing-along favorite "She Hates Me." Any rock fan should be well versed in these groups' catalogues.

Shinedown play Monday, February 1, at 7 p.m. at the Main Street Armory, 900 E Main St. $30-$35. 232-3221.
