Ryan Montbleau started out as a solo act in Boston's coffee shops, playing primarily folk tunes. Montbleau eventually became the front man of a quintet that bears his name. In doing so, his (and the band's) sound has expanded far beyond the borders of folk, incorporating elements from many of the most-loved styles throughout American music history, like blues, Americana, and soul. The sound is nothing if not eclectic, with the band employing piano, clavinet, and even viola into its musical arsenal. Putting on nearly 200 shows per year, these road warriors are supporting their first full-length release, "One Fine Color."
Ryan Montbleau Band plays Friday, February 5, 8 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water St. $12-$15. 546-3887, waterstreetmusic.com.
