He's now the head jazz man at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Wisconsin, but from 1991 to 2002 Fred Sturm directed the jazz program at the Eastman School of Music. At both schools, and in countless appearances in the United States and Europe, Sturm has conducted the world's top student ensembles and professional jazz orchestras. He's also written works featuring Bobby McFerrin, Wynton Marsalis, Phil Woods, and others. When he returns to his old stomping grounds at the Eastman School, he will collaborate with the Eastman New Jazz Ensemble.
Fred Sturm plays Wednesday, March 3 at 8 p.m. at Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs St. Free. 274-1100
