When most of us think of the tragedy in Haiti, what we're really thinking about are the images from the island's major city, Port-au-Prince. HOPE is a Rochester-based not-for-profit agency with a focus on assisting poverty-stricken Borgne in northern Haiti. Contributing to a charity that isn't directly connected to ground zero may seem a bit misdirected, unless one considers the many refugees that are beginning to flood surrounding areas. The earthquake's rumble still ripples out and local musicians - including Wild Geese, The Buddhahood, Mosaic Foundation, Driftwood, Night Gallery, Los Fadeaways, Deep Blue Dream, and more - will come together this weekend to help by sharing their art, and hope you'll be moved to share your wealth. If you still haven't made a contribution or want to do more, this will be way more fun than sending a text (and just as helpful).
HOPE for Haiti takes place Saturday, February 6, 6 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water St. $10-$15. 546-3887, waterstreetmusic.com.
