Boston-based folky Meg Hutchinson has gotten all sorts of attention and won all sorts of awards for her lyrically powerful music, including the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and the Billboard Song Contest. Interestingly, Hutchinson cites wordsmiths like Yeats, Eliot, and Frost more than musicians in her list of influences. Musically, Hutchinson is gentle and plaintive, yet there exists in her music an excitement and energy that isn't hidden or contained, but rather merely dawning on the heels of her poetic twists of phrase. This is more than pretty words sung pretty.
Meg Hutchinson performs Friday, March 19, at 8 p.m. at Café Veritas, 220 Winton Rd S. $6-$12. 309-2196.
