GARAGE ROCK: The Strange Boys (3/28)

Austin's Strange Boys croak and pluck through a retro-styled rock that seems to have emerged from depths of a swamp. Through that, the crowing of singer Ryan Sambol is a steady guide. For the band's second record, "Be Brave," which came out earlier this year, it picked up two members from stunningly energetic and recently defunct LA girl-punk band Mika Miko. The result is a diverse LP that is part Stones-inspired blues, part echoey rock 'n' roll, with the newest member's saxophone squawks to keep the Boys on their toes. The Pack AD and The Dead Friends share the bill.

The Strange Boys play Sunday, March 28, at 9 p.m. at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Ave. $6-$8. 454-2966, bugjar.com.
