Back in the 1960's, John Coltrane named his son Ravi for a reason. Feeling the connection between Indian music and his own spiritual form of improvisational jazz, the saxophone giant was enamored of the great sitar player, Ravi Shankar. Almost five decades later, Family Funktion And The Sitar Jams engages in a like-minded fusion. The brothers Padmanabha began their journey with a funk-rock band 20 years ago. Somewhere along the way, the trio discovered their own roots and hit the Yoga circuit with Indian classical and folk music. In their current psychedelic incarnation, you can expect some far-out far-eastern jams.

Family Funktion and The Sitar Jams plays Saturday, March 6, 9 p.m. at Abilene, 153 Liberty Pole Way. Free. 232-3230, abilenebarandlounge.com.
