Jazz fans are accustomed to hearing music in the Afro-Cuban tradition popularized by Chano Pozo and Dizzy Gillespie. Now meet the ensemble behind Afro-Peruvian music. This innovative fusion is the mission of the Gabriel Alegria Sextet. Alegria is a vibrant trumpet player whose skills are matched by every member of his sextet. From the flights of fancy by saxophonist Laurandrea Leguia to the zapateo dancing of percussionist Freddy "Huevito" Lobatón, this band is the very definition of perpetual motion.
