It's not that Wilkes-Barre dark heavies Breaking Benjamin are letting up on the gas with the 2009 release "Dear Agony." It's just that you can't easily lump the band in with all of the other Korn disciples or Tool-inspired bands anymore. Years on stage mashing melody into minor-keyed metal have paid off in a sound that separates the band from the post-grunge herd. It's still mighty heavy and thickly produced, but the songs could tolerate a complete strip down and still hang in your memory. You'll have to trust me on this one, because I've seen Breaking Benjamin before and turning down isn't in the band's vocabulary. Chevelle, Red, and Thousand Foot Krutch open.
Breaking Benjamin performs Monday, March 15, 7 p.m. at Main Street Armory, 900 E Main St. $35-$38. 800-745-3000.
