While I could expound the talents of Eastman students, what really interests me about this concert is the chance to see conductor David Effron in action. Effron began his professional career as an opera conductor and spent 11 years on the faculty at Eastman before joining the faculty of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music where he has been since 1998. He has also been the director of the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina since 1997. The last time I saw Effron conduct, it was Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. The enthusiasm that Effron brought to the piece was incredible. The concert will include Debussy's Prelude to Afternoon of a Faun, Franck's Symphony in D, and Eastman student Hye Sung Choe as soloist on Françaix's Flute Concerto.

David Effron plays Friday, April 9 at 8 p.m. at the Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs St. Free. 274-1100
