The worlds of classical and Native American/world music combine this Sunday for a performance by Arvel Bird, one of the Native American music genre's most celebrated artists. Raised in Utah, Bird received classical training on violin at Arizona State and Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He abandoned a classical career, however, in order to pursue folk music - particularly bluegrass, Celtic, and Appalachian-style fiddling. He toured with country artists such as Glen Campbell and Loretta Lynn before starting his own solo career. Bird's concerts are a reflection of his life experiences and heritage, bringing together fiddle playing, Native American flute playing, and storytelling. Bird will be accompanied by members of the Rochester Chamber Orchestra and the Fortissimo string ensemble.

Arvel Bird performs w/RCO Sunday, May 16 at 3 p.m. at Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Ave. $10-$20. 442-9778
