With a sold-out North American tour, major festival shows, and more than 500,000 downloads of his albums, Pretty Lights, a.k.a. Derek Smith, has certainly been keeping busy over the last couple years. Fortunately he doesn't have to go it alone at live shows, where he's joined by drummer Cory Eberhard. Their songs maintain a slow groovy tempo that keeps the myriad musical elements from fighting each other. On the new EP, "Making Up A Changing Mind," Pretty Lights manages to sample every genre he could get his hands on, hold it together with heavy bass lines, and still keep it classy. This EP would be the perfect soundtrack to watching movie stars walk into a nightclub in slow motion. Hipster-hop duo Chiddy Bang opens.
Pretty Lights plays Wednesday, June 2 at 8 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water St. $18-$20. 325-5600
