In the spirit of bands like The Obivions, 68 Comeback, The Soledad Brothers, The White Stripes, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and virtually everything put out by Fat Possum, the Black Keys from Akron, Ohio kick out the lo-fi, red-hot blues. Stripped down to a mere duo, the band - guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney - is barebones raw with its savage riffs and primal thunder. The band is also part of Blakroc, a hip-hop consortium with MCs RZA, Mos Def, Q-Tip, and Raekwon. The band's new disc "Brothers" debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top 200 chart and No. 2 on the Current Albums chart. The band opens for The Flaming Lips.
Black Keys play Friday, July 23, 7 p.m. at CMAC, 4355 Lakeshore Dr, Canandaigua. $37. 800-745-3000, cmacevents.com.
