When I first went to Australia three years ago seeking the approval of my future in-laws, I was knocked out by the radio; DJs were considerably more profane and the rock 'n' roll was fresh, exciting, and in the case of hard rock quartet Airbourne, equally profane. Airbourne is shirts-off, guns-blazing rock 'n' roll. It's sweaty, dirty, loud, and defiant. Comparisons could be made to AC/DC what with the geographic similarities and the fact that singer/guitarist Joel O'Keeffe sound a bit like Bon. But this band's live shows have a slightly more sinister undertone and an apparent willingness to take it over the very edge most hard rock bands merely flirt with.
Airbourne plays as part of the Uproar Festival with Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Halestorm, Hellyeah, Hail The Villain, New Medicine, and Disturbed, Sunday, August 22, 3:30 p.m. at Darien Lake PAC, 9993 Alleghany Rd, Darien Center. $25-$85. livenation.com.
