Trumpeter John Marshall spent the 1970's and 1980's playing and recording with some of the top names in jazz. Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Ornette Coleman, and Lionel Hampton were among the greats who tapped his talent. In 1992 the WDR (West German Radio-Television) Big Band in Cologne offered him the position of principal jazz trumpet soloist. He could not turn down one of the world's leading bands, so he left the American jazz scene behind. But in recent years he's returned regularly to lead his own band at Smalls in Manhattan and other New York venues. He'll be adding the Strathallan to that list when he sits in with Bob Sneider's Trio.

John Marshall plays Friday-Saturday, August 13-14, 8:30 p.m. at Grill at Strathallan, 550 East Ave. Free. 461-5010.
