WORLD BLUES: Harper (9/1)

Aussie singer-songwriter Harper certainly knows how to play the blues - some of his biggest influences were Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Little Walter, whose harmonica style made a huge impact on him - but he's also steeped in the influences of world music. The resulting amalgamation of styles is called, appropriately enough, world blues, and after several successful releases on top-shelf blues label Blind Pig, Harper has spread his original sound near and far. In addition to being a mouth harp virtuoso, Harper also incorporates the didgeridoo, the classic Australian folk instrument.

Harper plays Wednesday, September 1, 10 p.m. at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, 99 Court St. Free. 325-7090.
