Ever found yourself humming along to your video-game theme song? Doo, doo doo, doo doo da doo... Catchy, right? Those familiar blips and beeps inspired one group of local college students to start making music. The Revengineers, who have only been playing together for about six months, blend the simple Nintendo tag with surprisingly bold guitars and beats that pound out of their own synthesizer - a modified Game Boy circa 1989, complete with red backlit screen (instead of the usual sickly green glow) and fresh paint job. The combination of deeper-rock inspirations and poppy overtones fits perfectly with the other bands sharing the bill, sarcastic folk-punk singer Paul Baribeau, and Peelander-Z, a NYC-based Japanese comic punk band.
Revengineers plays Monday, September 6 at 8 p.m. at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Ave. $6-$8. 454-2966
