ROCK: John Fogerty (9/14)

John Fogerty is part of a growing list I have of vintage rockers that don't simply rely on their legacy or hit-song longevity to pull off a good show. With a sort of subconscious forgiveness, we sometimes let classic artists slide. And I was ready to do that the last time I saw Fogerty play. Suffice it to say, no forgiveness was needed. Opening with a rip-roarin "Travelin' Band," Fogarty blew the lid off the joint. The songs, from both his Creedence Clearwater Revival and solo repertoire, were already etched in our brains, but he and his band attacked them like raw meat. It was big and loud and beautiful, and one of the best concerts I have ever seen. My mom even dug it; so in that regard, you could consider me a fortunate son.

John Fogerty plays Tuesday, September 14, 8 p.m. at Auditorium Theatre, 875 E Main St. $47.50-$87.50. ticketmaster.com.
