Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman happened across each other in early 1971, at a Boston folk club that hosting was an open mic night. The two were duly impressed with each other's talents, and they soon formed Aztec Two-Step, which has developed into one of the longest-lasting and most renowned groupings on the folk-rock scene. The duo's "Living in America" received the New York Music Award for best folk album in 1987, and at the end of that year, the pair earned a spot in Billboard's annual critics poll. (In case you're wondering, Fowler and Shulman named themselves after a line in a poem by Beat writer Lawrence Ferlinghetti.)
