The textures and timbres of combinations of instruments are the basic building blocks of orchestration, but 99 percent of the time, the same old tried-and-true voicings are employed. Standard arrangements are the last thing you'll hear when the world-famous Instant Composers Orchestra visits the Bop Shop in the midst of its North American tour. Misha Mengelberg (piano, composer), Han Bennink (drums), Wolter Wierbos (trombone), Michael Moore (reeds), and Mary Oliver (violin) make up just half of the international stars in the Holland-based group.
The concert takes place Wednesday, September 3, 8 p.m., at the Bop Shop Atrium, 274 N Goodman St. $20. 271-3354.
