Rochester native Rich Vitale was such a prodigy on the trumpet that he was playing with the great Philly Joe Jones by the age of 16. After moving to New York he performed with the Buddy Rich Big Band, the Count Basie Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band, not to mention stints with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Joe Williams, and Sting. Currently leading the salsa band Orquesta Universal, Vitale will bring his fiery style to the Strathallan for two nights.
Rich Vitale plays Friday and Saturday, September 5-6, 8:30 p.m. at the Grill at Strathallan, 550 East Ave. Free. 461-5010.
