Rochester's theater groups are gearing up for the new fall season. But for one night the folks who grace the stages or work behind the curtains will get together to look at what's coming up, and to celebrate their hard work all year long. Break a Leg is a new event dedicated to the local theater community; it's also a fund-raiser for Artists Unlimited, a theater program for individuals with special needs. Sky Sands will host the evening, in which more than 30 area theater groups will gather and present previews of their upcoming seasons.
The night will also include the presentation of the first City Newspaper Spirit Award, which recognizes a Rochester native who has worked on theater on- and off-Broadway. This year's recipient is Evan Cummings (pictured), a graduate of McQuaid High School, Geva Theatre Summer Conservatory, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Break a Leg takes place Monday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the German House, 315 Gregory St. Tickets cost $10; deadline for reservations is Wednesday, September 5 (there will be no door sales). Attendees are asked to dress formal or in over-the-top attire; best dressed awards will be given out later in the evening. For more information or to make reservations call 381-1244.
