Whenever I see a cat, I have this compulsion to exclaim, "Kitty!" like a 2-year-old. Maybe it's because we grew up with less-than-sociable barn cats, so I'm forever trying to convince the fuzzy mice killers that it's worth their while to come within petting distance. This weekend, hundreds of felines will be within reach at the Armory's Cats in the Castle cat show. We're used to seeing dogs on show - or even happy-go-lucky pups on parade - so it'll be interesting to see how a group of indifferent cats take to center stage.
Among the breeds of cats you might see: sphynx, European Burmese, Siberian, Egyptian Mau, Scottish Fold, Chartreux, Ragamuffin, Ragdoll, Norwegian forest, American curl, and Siamese.
The cat show takes place Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19, at the Main Street Armory, 900 East Main Street. Hours are Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission costs $3-$6. 232-3221.
