Once a year the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) gathers together the finest and flashiest school and community theatrical productions and puts them under the eye of scrutiny. A true trial jury by peers, the productions are adjudicated using 10 points of consideration, and awards are bestowed upon the finest. Of course, you can't gather a bunch of thespians together without expecting some pomp and circumstance, showing off, and the ever-present workshops.
This year's theme is "On the Way to the Forum." Taking time away from saving the world - or possibly destroying it - local hero Robert Forster will play Celebrity Chair. Forster, who presently plays Arthur Petrelli on "Heroes," is a Rochester native done good.
The festival, which takes place November 21-23 at Genesee Community College in Batavia, will present eight award-winning productions. You can purchase a three-day Superpass for $100, $85 if you're a member, and $80 if you're a student, or purchase events a la carte. Go to tanys.homestead.com for a full listing.
