Tennis and a decrepit court are at the center of Andy Bragen's newest play, "The Hairy Dutchman." A group of 13 New Yorkers struggle to try and save their favorite playing spot when city bureaucrats push to have it demolished. The sport then becomes the stage for life themes such as preservation, love, and rivalry. The production will receive its world premiere as part of the University of Rochester's International Theatre Program's New Voice Initiative, which develops a new work for the theater by an early-career American playwright.
"The Hairy Dutchman" runs at Todd Theatre, located in Todd Union on the River Campus, from Thursday, April 23, to Saturday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 29, to Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, April 26, at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $6-$10 and can be reserved online at rochester.edu/theatre, or purchased at the door one hour before the performance. For more information call 275-4088 or visit rochester.edu.
