Maybe you already know how to pitch a tent and survive in the wild. But if you don't - or if you're looking for some fresh tips about the local outdoors scene - the 12th Annual Outdoor Expo (sponsored by the Adirondack Mountain Club) will hook you up.
At the Expo, you can familiarize yourself with all the clubs, shops, and information you'll need to live it up outside year-long. You can test drive a canoe or kayak, attend workshops on hiking, biking, map and compass skills, camping, backpacking, and way more. There'll also be cooking demos, water-related workshops on the beach, tent displays, hikes, and food from Foodlink and the Corn Hill Creamery.
The Outdoor Expo takes place Saturday, June 13, at Mendon Ponds Park, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free. Go to gvc-adk.org for details.

The Expo 06/13/09 was thoroughly enjoyed! Beautiful weather and a wonderful turnout. I have a suggestion - these days, there are so many folks with serious allergies (especially peanut) that it would be good not to have this food item. One of the booths had a huge bowl with peanuts in the shell which was very generously offered for anyone to reach into and take a handful. Then I sadly watched people drop the shells along the path and/or anyplace along the way. Keeping a healthy environment in mind, we should not just "drop" our garbage along the way, and... it could exclude some folks/children from participating and/or be an unexpected health threat (allergies can be air-borne, touch, or ingested) - after all - there was a designated eating area. Thank you for listening to my comment.
