This weekend is all about dear ol' Dad, so why not take him out? There are plenty of special events running all weekend long that honor the man who gave you half of your genetic material.
On Friday, June 19, Top's Cooking School will teach kids ages 8 and up how to make special edible Father's Day gifts, like a macaroni and cheese mug, chocolate tool kit, and handprint cookies. Class costs $15 and runs 4-8 p.m. at the Tops on Mount Read Blvd. Come back Saturday, June 20, for dinner and a movie 6-9 p.m. After preparing a meal for the family, kids can play games and enjoy a movie while parents have some time all to themselves. Try heading outdoors to Washington Square Park for a walking tour of historical Rochester on Saturday and Sunday. The tour is free for fathers, and $12-$15 for everyone else who wants to tag along. Check rochestertour.org.
On Sunday, June 21, take Dad to the Memorial Art Gallery for its Fathers in Art Tour at 1 p.m. The tour is included with gallery admission, so stick around to see the "GlassWear" exhibit and the "How To" show, which gives audiences a glimpse at the process behind making art. Also on Sunday, try the Father's Day event at Artisan Works (565 Blossom Rd.) noon-5 p.m. Enjoy gallery attractions, live music and gourmet appetizers and snacks for only $12. For more info check artisanworks.net.
Or if your dad is prefers classic cars, take him to the Movie-Themed Car Show and Auto Competition at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua. Along with the Model-Ts and old-school convertibles, you'll be able to check out tributes to your favorite car movies, snack on burgers, popcorn and ice cream, and listen to live music noon-5 p.m. on Sunday Admission costs $5-$10.
