You can read history books and watch movies all you want, but when it comes down to it, there's no better way to step back in time than to go to a re-enactment. This year marks the 6th Annual Tinker Homestead and Farm Museum's Civil War Days, which recreates the war between the North and South Friday, July 31, through Sunday, August 2.

Not only can you watch and learn from afar, but you can get off your butt and walk amidst the living display of history. Friday kicks off with a free evening concert from the Excelsior Brigade Fife and Drum Corps. Saturday and Sunday are full of pre-battle drills, formations, and of course the battle re-enactment itself. Outside of the battle you can see how the times have changed with a ladies dress show, or you can wander the camp area. Don't forget that you can attend the Sunday morning church service prior to the battle before the weekend comes to a close.

Civil War Days will take place at the Tinker Nature Park (1525 Calkins Rd). The Friday concert at 6:30-8:30 p.m. and is free. Saturday and Sunday battles take place at 1 p.m. and the camp is open to the public 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
