It's Independence Day, which means multiple displays of our patriotic heritage, including parades, races, competitions, food, and especially all manner of fireworks set around Greater Rochester. Below you'll find a list of the many special events going on Saturday, July 4. Check one out, or just sit home with the grill and watch the sparks fly.

Brighton starts the day with a pancake breakfast and 5K run at Twelve Corners and Brighton High School. Carnival at 10 a.m. in Meridian Centre Park. Food, family entertainment, and live music. Fireworks after dusk. 784-5250, townofbrighton.org.

Brockport celebrates Fourth of July at the Morgan-Manning House starting at 10:45 a.m. Veteran flag presentation, live music, and family activities. 637-3645, brockportny.org.

Canandaigua holds a 10 a.m. parade down Main Street to the lake, followed by a picnic with community lunches and concerts at Kershaw Park. Fireworks 9:30 p.m. 396-5000, Canandaigua-events.org.

Canandaigua Speedway hosts their Red, White and Blue 50,000-watt Fireworks Extravaganza at night, plus races all day. Races include last man standing, sportsman modified cars, and more. 315-834-6606, canandaiguaspeedway.

Chili puts on the 20th annual Chil-E Fest and Fourth of July celebration on Chili Ave. Food vendors, craft shows, car show, live music, and fireworks. 10 a.m.-10 p.m. 889-3550, townofchili.org.

City of Rochester doubles up with a 175th Anniversary/Fourth of July Celebration starting at 7:30 p.m. on Main Street (between Paul and State). The RPO will be performing, fireworks will shoot at 10 p.m., and there will be family entertainment. 311, 428-5990, cityofrochester.gov.

Fairport starts with the Firecrasker 5-Mile Race at 8:30 a.m., followed by a parade at 10 a.m. Park events noon-4:30 p.m. with live music. 586-9840, perintonchamber.com.

Genesee Country Village & Museum hosts an all-day celebration 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with 1876-style celebration with a parade, pie-eating contest, and a greased pig chase. 538-6822, gcv.org.

Greece will have a Fourth of July carnival at Grace and Truth SportsPark starting at 3 p.m. Children's inflatables, face painting, sports activities, historical reenactors, speeches, military tribute, and live music. Fireworks at 10 p.m. thespiritofamerica.info.

Henrietta holds its celebration at the Henrietta Veterans Memorial Park, with a garage and craft sale in the morning, and live music and family activities, including a picnic, in the afternoon. Fireworks at 9:40 p.m. 359-2540, townofhenrietta.org.

Irondequoit July 4 festivities start with a parade at 11 a.m. Arts and crafts show, community booths, races, contests, and live music runs 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. 467-8840, Irondequoit.org.

Penfield will hold a parade at 2 p.m. from Penfield High School to Penfield Community Center, followed by a festival 4-11 p.m. at Harris Whalen Park. There will be food booths, kids activities, and live music. Fireworks at 10:15 p.m. 340-8600, penfield.org.

Sodus Bay celebration starts at 10 a.m. with a kids parade, followed by an antique car parade 7 p.m. Fireworks at the West Pier at 10 p.m. 315-483-6391, greatsodusbay.org.
