You'll probably agree that there are quite a lot of idiots in this town, so shelling out hard-earned dough to see a group identifying itself as "idiots" just sounds wrong. But that's where you're wrong. The Village Idiots Improv group is not like the idiots you encounter at work or while driving. These idiots are some of the best in town, and demonstrate that idiots can be more than just a nuisance.
This weekend is the Village Idiots Improv Comedy Championship, where finalists of the Weekly Improv Comedy Tournament face off in hysterical displays of quickly made up plots, jokes, and gags using suggestions from the audience and whatever else pops up in the routine. If laughing your ass off isn't appealing enough, ticket proceeds go to the University of Rochester Medical Center's Transplant Patient Fund, which assists patients with emergency expenses.
The show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, in Village Gate (274 N. Goodman) on the second floor. Tickets cost $10 in advance, $15 general admission, or $25 for premium seating. Purchase tickets or get more information at improvvip.com.
