FESTIVAL: Sankofa Festival of the Arts (8/22)

By Kathy Laluk on August 19, 2009

It may seem like the slew of summer festivals in Rochester is drawing to a close, but there's still time to get your festival on before fall officially arrives. The 8th Annual Sankofa Festival of the Arts is a celebration of African culture that will surely remedy anyone's end-of-the-summer blues.

The festival, taking place Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, will feature jazz music, food, children's activities, an appearance by a Civil Rights bus and the premiere of four one-act plays by local authors. The plays will be staged at the Multi-use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC, 142 Atlantic Ave) Friday 7:30-10 p.m.; tickets cost $12.50-$15. Saturday's festivities go all day 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. at Village Gate (274 N. Goodman). For more information about the festival, call 271-7010 or visit muccc.org.
