Long before NASCAR became popular, people came out in droves to see carriage-driving competitions instead. Wednesday, August 12, through Sunday, August 16, everyone can get a taste of the authentic old-time event at the 38th Annual Walnut Hill Carriage Drive Competition.
There will be dozens of races at Walnut Hill Farm (397 W. Bloomfield Rd in Pittsford), with categories ranging from traditional ladies and gents competitions to costumed races. Things kick off Wednesday with a casino-themed barbecue after the races. Other specialties at this year's event include a horse-drawn field artillery unit, a miniature horse drill team, dog shows, and food from traditional fair vendors.
The grounds are open daily starting at 8 a.m. and races go until 5 p.m. Admission is $10 adults, $5 children under 12, and free for children under 5. For more information call 385-2555 or visit walnuthillfarm.com.
