The annual Break a Leg! theater season kick-off party is in its third year, and this time around the guest of honor is Broadway actor Donna Lynne Champlin (pictured). The Rochester native is this year's recipient of the City Newspaper Spirit Award, which is given out to recognize the work of a theater professional who has come out of the local scene. The night will also include the announcement of City Newspaper's first inductee to the Rochester Theatre Hall of Fame. Actor and comedian Adele M. Fico will emcee, and there will be live music by the David Labman Trio as well as a musical theater parody performance. And fans of local theater will want to attend to hear about the various troupes' plans for the 2009-10 season.

Break A Leg! takes place on Monday, September 14, 7 p.m. at the German House (315 Gregory St). Tickets are $10 a person until September 10, then $15 at the door on the night of the event. But note: according to the event's Facebook page, it looks like advance tickets are likely to run out. Call 381-9181 to get yours. Proceeds benefit Artists Unlimited, a theater group that works with developmentally challenged youth.
