DANCE EVENT: DANCE/Hartwell (10/29-10/31)

By Jen Graney on October 28, 2009

"A Mermaid's Guide to Living on Land," part of SUNY Brockport's DANCE/Hartwell program, might not deliver exactly what the title implies. But the dance, choreographed by MFA candidate Rebecca M. Sproul, and inspired by mermaids, daffodils, lightning storms, and cowgirls, will bring the audience on the journey of youth through life's sometimes bumpy trails.

Another featured dance is "The Grace of the Monstrous Voice," a piece by MFA thesis choreographer Kathy Diehl. "Monstrous Voice" is based on the individuality and creativity of dancers, as well as the student-teacher relationship.

These and others will be performed at DANCE/Hartwell, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. daily from Thursday, October 29, through Saturday, October 31, at SUNY Brockport's Hartwell Hall Dance Theater (Kenyon St, Brockport). Tickets are $8-$12 and are available by phone (395-ARTS), or at the box office.
