Bread & Water Theatre stages "Troilus and Cressida" Friday, October 30, through November 21 at the Bread & Water Theatre inside New Life Presbyterian Church.
Shakespeare's "Troilus & Cressida" is often referred to as one of the Bard's "problem plays," a tragedy that ventures wildly into unconventional dark comedy. The story takes place in the seventh year of the Trojan War, and just as a love affair between Trojan prince Troilus and his subject Cressida begins, the Grecian siege of Troy escalates. The moment Cressida professes her love for Troilus, she is swapped to the Greeks for a prisoner of war. You can see how that might be a problem. Although the love story is only part of the play; at its core it examines the realities of war and all of its attendant horrors.
Bread & Water Theatre stages the play Friday, October 30, through Sunday, November 22 at the Bread & Water Theatre inside New Life Presbyterian Church, located at 243 Rosedale St. Tickets cost $6-$12. Check out breadandwatertheatre.org for a schedule and more information.
