Some of Poland's finest films hit Rochester this week, in what'll be a look at the past, present, and future of Polish cinema. "Tomorrow We Are Going to the Movies" commemorates the 70th anniversary of the beginning of WWII; after the screening, there will be live interviews with WWII survivors who remember September 1, 1939. Other films include selected documentaries and a collection of shorts. Two of the leading figures in the Polish film industry - director Jacek Blawut and actress Malgorzata Kozuchowska (pictured in the film "Drowsiness") - will also appear to discuss their work.
The University of Rochester's Skalny Center hosts the Polish Film Fest, which opens on Friday, November 13, at the Rochester Academy of Medicine (1441 East Ave) with a panel discussion about trends in Polish cinema, and the Polish-American connection. The festival continues through November 18 at the Little Theatre (240 East Ave), where all films will be screened. Tickets are $8 for regular admission and $5 for seniors, children, and students. A discount book of five tickets is also available for $35. Call the Skalny Center at 275-9898, or visit rochester.edu for more information and a schedule of films.
