The Hungerford Building houses dozens of sculptors, painters, potters, musicians, and other talented, creative people. They go by the collective name HUA (Hungerford Urban Artists). Every now and then, the building's doors open to the public, and the rest of us get a glimpse of what goes on behind them. This happens again on Friday, December 4, 5-9 p.m., in conjunction with First Friday, and again the next day, Saturday, December 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. It's "The A-maze-ing Hungerford Holiday Show," and during it, you can wander the hallways and stairwells and stumble upon all kinds of artistic treasures.
In Suite 336, "Written: Word as Image" by Jeanne Raffer Beck incorporates found letters, diaries, and journals into layered textile works. The artist sees the work as a connection between past and present, and the real and imagined. In Suite 344, Bill Wolff's "Work Well Traveled" showcases pieces made in Japan and New York. One sculpture looks like an enormous, creepy, post-apocalyptic spider, and other pieces on the wall hang like horns.
Besides these, 20 other studios will be open building-wide, to give you a chance to view some interesting art, and to maybe even purchase a few pieces for yourself or as gifts. Musicians and food will be part of the event. The Hungerford Building is located at 1115 E Main St. Elevator service is available at Door 2.
