Mayor Duffy will officially kick off the holidays in Rochester with the lighting of the Liberty Pole Saturday, December 5. And after the switch is thrown, this year's event will afford plenty of fun for the family.

At the Sibley Building, located at corner of Main and Franklin streets, you can check out musical performances by area school groups, grab a visit with Santa, try out some face-painting, and hear tunes from Rudolph and Friends and Prime Time Brass 3-5 p.m.

At 5 p.m., Duffy and all the holiday characters will head off to Manhattan Square Park Ice Rink (353 Court St)., for a fireworks display, skating, meet-and-greets with Santa, figure and speed skating exhibitions, and horse-drawn wagon rides. The event continues until 9 p.m., and all activities are free (although skate rentals cost $3). For more info go to cityofrochester.gov.
