One of the main attractions of the Cummings Nature Center in Naples is its 15 miles of well maintained cross-country ski trails. On Saturday and Sunday, February 27-28, you can take a break from all the skiing in order to benefit the volunteer group that grooms the trails for your enjoyment. Nordic Hot Dog Days will feature hot dogs, chili, mulled cider and more for sale to benefit the Genesee Valley Nordic Ski Patrol that monitors the ski trails.
If you sleep in on weekends, or if hot-dog eating isn't your thing, you can also stop by on Saturday to join in on the Luna Ski. You can enjoy a nighttime cross-country ski under the full moon with members of the Nordic Ski Patrol. Afterwards, you can eat a buffet meal at the CNC visitor center. And here's a hint: this can also make for a great event to go to if you forgot Valentine's Day, and are looking for redemption in the eyes of your significant other.
Nordic Hot Dog Days take place at the Cummings Nature Center, 6472 Gulick Road, Naples, this weekend 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Moonlight skiing takes place Saturday 5:30-8 p.m. Suggested donation for Hot Dog Days is $3 (plus the cost of hot dogs, of course). Skis are available for rent for $15; the moonlight buffet costs $15/person. Reservations required for the Luna Ski. For more information call 374-6160 or visit rmsc.org.
