SPECIAL EVENT: St. Patrick’s Day Parade (3/13)

St. Patrick's Day is filled with corned beef and cabbage, shamrocks, tacky bright green clothes, and of course, parades. The 2010 Rochester St. Patrick's Day Parade will mark its 33rd year in existence. This parade should include the usual parade-walking merriment, plus the return of Ireland's 32, a chance for groups to bear flags marking Ireland's 32 counties.

The Rochester parade typically draws huge crowds of revelers to the East End, many of whom start drinking first thing in the morning. A plea for sanity: before you reach for your case of Guinness, make sure to keep your heads on, and stay safe. Taxi fare might be expensive, but crashing into an oak tree - or someone else - has a whole different cost.

The 2010 St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place on Saturday, March 13, starting at 12:30 p.m. The parade will start at East Avenue and Alexander Street and proceeds down Main Street to Plymouth Avenue. 234-5167. rochesterparade.com.
