An alien transvestite mad scientist and his creations form the core of the strangeness that is "The Rocky Horror Show." The show and its equally wacky film adaptation have been presented nearly constantly since the former's debut in 1973. Nazareth College's student production of "The Rocky Horror Show" continues the decades-long cult tradition, in the flesh of the live stage, as presented by the Nazareth College Theater Deaprtment.
As many people know, "The Rocky Horror Show" and its cinematic sister have gradually grown into an all-out cultural phenomenon, with audience interaction like singing along with actors and throwing random objects around the theatre. Unfortunately, Nazareth's performance limits some of the interactive elements - newspaper, confetti, and toast are fine; liquids, rice, and hotdogs are not (it's a fancy new theater, after all).
However, if you are looking for that extra level of audience interaction, check out the local Ancient Spirits of Evil's regular performances at rochesterrockyhorror.com. These are the "Rocky Horror" equivalent of a civil war reenactment and occur on a fairly regular basis.
"The Rocky Horror Show" will be performed at Nazareth College's Callahan Theater (4245 East Ave) on Friday, April 23, at 8 p.m. and midnight, Saturday, April 24, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. Note that it's for mature audiences. Tickets cost $14-$15. For more information call 389-2170 or visit naz.edu.
