FESTIVAL: Ganondagan Native American Music and Dance Festival (7/24-25)

By Rebecca Rafferty on July 21, 2010

Summer celebrations meet rich culture and complex history at the 19th annual Native American Music and Dance Festival at Ganondagan State Historic Site (1488 State Rte. 444 in Victor). In addition to the restored bark longhouse and educational visitor's center, the festival includes traditional dancing, musicians, storytellers, artists, workshops, food, guided trail walks, a family drum jam, and more. Additionally, you'll have the chance to meet two of the remaining 86 Navajo Code Talkers, recruited by the United States military during World War II to develop and use an invaluable and indecipherable code. A ceremony to honor them and commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima takes place this weekend. The festival takes place Saturday-Sunday, July 24-25, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. each day. Admission to the festival is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors (62+) and students (13+), $3 for children ages 4-12, and free for children under 4. For more information, call 742-1690, or visit ganondagan.org.
