Not sure what to do with the little ones this weekend? One Saturday morning per month, the Little Theatre (240 East Ave.) hosts a "Little Buddies" kids' film. The July 31 selection is one of Hayao Miyazaki's stunningly illustrated and wonder-filled tales, "Howl's Moving Castle."
In this magical-realism story, penned by Diana Wynne Jones and brought to life by Miyazaki's expert team, young and responsible Sophie's stable but unsatisfying existence is shaken up when she is turned into an old woman by a spiteful witch's curse, and must seek help from an unlikely source: a fire demon. But the demon Calcifer wants help with his own curse, which has him bound to the feared and mysterious wizard Howl. The fairytale follows the adventures and fumbles of the many characters as they navigate seeming appearances and the realities within, magic used for love and for war, and ultimately, learn how to release everyone from that which binds them.
The show takes place at 10 a.m.; tickets cost $5. For more information, call 258-0400 or visit thelittle.org.
