In the midst of a cultural shift from heavy, moldering tomes to shiny, slick eReader devices, the 2010 Rochester Antiquarian Book Fair has arrived to make stubborn bibliophiles start salivating. My own personal book lust has been trumped by a lack of space, and now I'm not sure if I want to grow my collection of old leather-bound texts, or adopt the techie-minimalist cultural shift. It certainly won't hurt for me to go check out the wares, which the press release promises will include more than 50 vendors from around the country offering "bargain-priced copies of extraordinary, epoch-making books to scarce first editions, rare maps, photographs, and other collectibles." Certainly sounds like treasure to me.
The event runs Saturday, September 11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Minett Hall at the Monroe County Fairgrounds (2695 East Henrietta Road, Henrietta), and general admission is $4, free to students, and $2 to bearers of coupons which can be found around town in libraries, used bookstores, and cafes. Or you could download and print your own by visiting rochesterbooksellers.wordpress.com. For more info, contact Franlee Frank of Greenwood Books at franleef@aol.com or 325-2050.
