At the sound of the gun on Sunday, September 12, more than 3000 local and national athletes will burst into action and flood downtown, and if you sign up before Saturday, you could be one of them. The MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon, a huge fundraiser for the Upstate New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, commences at 7:30 a.m. on the bridge on Andrews Street and follows a 26.2-mile scenic route through downtown and many Rochester neighborhoods. Also starting at 7:30 a.m. is the marathon relay race, and at 7:45 the half marathon will begin.
Participate by signing up as a runner by calling 264-1480 or visiting rochestermarathon.com, or support the event and the runners by choosing a vital volunteer role, including road marshal, water table attendant, or finish line staff.
