We all collected leaves off forest floors and glue-sticked them to paper for some grade-school project or another. But while we couldn't tell a maple from an elm, artist Jason Tennant has singled out one tree - the nearly extinct American chestnut - for his collection of paintings and sculptures. He's foraged around the Finger Lakes for remnants of chestnuts, and the results can be found in his latest work, "Wood Gestures," which includes sculptures carved from the wood, and paintings that focus on its characteristics.

"Wood Gestures" is on display at Ock Hee's Gallery, 2 Lehigh St, Honeoye Falls, from August 30 through September 29. Admission is free, and there's an opening reception on Saturday, August 30, noon-5 p.m. Call 624-4730 for more information.
