Thunderous rhythms from beating drums, colorful costumes punctuated with feathers and beads, and haunting melodies sung by deep, cavernous voices. The sights and sounds of traditional Native American dance and music will be presented this weekend, July 26-27, at the Ganondagan State Historic Site, 1488 State Route 444 in Victor.
Just southeast of Rochester, Ganandogan is historic site that used to be a vibrant, flourishing center for the Seneca people, and now is a national historic landmark with hundreds of hiking trails, a long house, and a small museum. This year's festival will feature performances by Halau O'Aulani, Young Gunz, the Buffalo Creek Dancers, and the Young Spirit Dancers, plus traditional art workshops and both traditional and contemporary Native American foods.
The festival runs Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and is open to the public. For admission rates or more information, call 924-5848 or visit ganondagan.org.
