At this year's Rochester High Falls Film Festival, Rochester filmmaker Matt Ehler unspooled his locally shot movie, "Smoking Laws." This week Ehler will screen the film in Abilene's outdoor patio area, preceded by guest filmmakers' shorts and live music.
"Smoking Laws" follows the rants and ravings of smokers banished to the outdoors on the coldest night of the year. A comedy, it explores the intermittent relationships of these cigarette-long liaisons born of being social castaways. Starring many familiar faces, and filmed entirely at Mex, the film is Ehler's first feature. Catch it before you have to whine, "I knew him when..."
Screenings take place at 8 p.m. Sunday, September 7, through Wednesday, September 10. Doors at Abilene, 153 Liberty Pole Way, open at 7 p.m. with guest filmmakers and music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
