Every weekend morning, no matter the weather, a handful of people gather at the corner field, drinking from their travel mugs while keeping one eye out for a mug of a different sort - their precious pooch. As man's best friends romp together playfully, their owners catch up on neighborhood news, like a modern day version of chatting over the fence. But not all neighborhoods offer this simple luxury, which is why the Friends of Monroe County Dog Parks is holding the Paws in the Park Dog Walk on Sunday, September 23, at Genesee Valley Park. The Friends hope to make their dream of dog parks in Monroe County become a reality.
Genesee Valley Park is located off Elmwood Avenue at Moore Road. The canine cause begins with registration for the walk at 10 a.m., with a DJ, agility demos, raffles, prizes and vendors to follow. For sponsor forms, along with a list of special doggy rules for the day, call 753-PARK or email mcdogwalk@gmail.com. Admission is $20, but waived if you have pledges in that amount. Let your inner dog run free!
