Toooniiight! Toooniiiight! Come get "Cool" with "West Side Story" this week at the JCC SummerStage, 1200 Edgewood Avenue. The JCC will hold performances of the timeless Stephen Sondheim musical Wednesday-Thursday, July 23-24, and Saturday, July 26, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m.
The story, which Sondheim borrowed from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," follows teenage gangs the Jets and the Sharks in Manhattan's Upper West Side, and what happens when Jet Tony falls in love with Maria, the sister of one of the Sharks. Not only is the story classic, but the music is memorable as well, and includes popular favorites as "Maria," "Tonight," "America," "I Feel Pretty," "Somewhere," and "Something's Coming".
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for full-time students. For more information call 461-2000 ext. 235, or visit jccrochester.com.

The music for West Side Story was written by Leonard Bernstein. Sondheim wrote the lyrics, and book too, I think.
